Dividing lands

What happens if your neighbours move their fence so it takes up space on your side of the garden, or if someone continually uses your parking space and refuses to move? What happens when fishermen stray out of waters they are entitled to fish in, to fish in waters allocated to other nations? Don’t these things cause disputes?
What happens then, when lands are divided up in ways that affect the inhabitants? I guess it could be hard to imagine England, The United States, or Australia being partitioned into separate nations. We can see problems related to the division of land in places like Ireland and Northern Ireland, Germany (Wast and West before unification), Russia since it’s break up and in Israel with Palestine.
The scriptures state:
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors.
Proverbs 22:28 (CJB)
However, when we consider the scripture above in relation to the map at the start of this article it seems stunning to realise that Europe has had several strands of imperialism (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Belgian and Italian) that have grown their empires to impact three quarters of the world and in the process divided many, many lands in a perhaps irreversible way. Speaking of the arrogance and complacency of the rich, a Psalmist writes:
Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves.
Psalm 49:11 (NIV)
Let’s take one example Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was previously named Rhodesia after Cecil Rhodes who Wikipedia describes as “An ardent believer in British imperialism”. Cecil Rhodes, apparently the son of a vicar and no doubt supporting interpretations of scripture that underpin European colonialist exploits, not only gained control of large swathes of Africa because of British military superiority, but he also became a key player in the mining industry in Africa, forming a company you may well have heard of, De Beers, which he started with funding from the now infamous Rothschild (“New World Order”) family!
What gave Europeans the supposed “right” to take over other lands?
Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth.
Psalm 73:9 (NIV)
Yah elsewhere in scripture describes the actions of such people thus:
“Look around among the nations! What you see will completely astound you! For what is going to be done in your days you will not believe, even when you are told.
Habakkuk 1:5–11 (CJB)
I am raising up the Kasdim [Babylonians], that bitter and impetuous nation, who march far and wide over the earth to seize homes that are not their own.
Fearsome and dreadful they are; their rules and strength come from themselves.
Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at night. Their cavalry gallop in from afar, flying like vultures rushing to feed.
All of them come for violence, their faces set eagerly forward, scooping up captives like sand.
They scoff at kings; princes they deride. They laugh at any fortress; they pile up earth and take it.
Then they sweep on like the wind, but they become guilty, because they make their strength their god.”
Imagine the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, atomic bombs dropped on civilian populations. Some say this was done to bring WWII to and end more quickly, some say that this was retaliation for attack on Pearl Harbour and America flexing its military might. Nevertheless, between 129,000 and 226,000 peopled died in those bombings, and the debate still goes on even today about its legitimacy. Regardless of your view on this European’s have always been a law unto themselves, the allow themselves to commit crimes and excuse themselves for it while accusing others for doing the same things, or even for having the capacity to do the same things!
Moreover, if the use of force in Hiroshima and Nagasaki can be accepted, and I for one do not think it can, then what about the use of force in the Iraq War which many view as illegal? Doesn’t this repeated action show a pattern of disregard for human life and the ability for European nations to exercise their rights outside of the framework of the rights of other nations, thus being a law unto themselves?
You can take this onto a micro-level and look at the interactions in society between some sections of society and law enforcement. Not only is it self evident that law enforcement enforces law according to different standards for different sections of society, there are also situations where law enforcement, politicians and other people who play a key role in the institutions of authority show that they too see themselves as being above the law.
Therefore when Adonai has done everything he intends to do to Mount Tziyon and Yerushalayim, “I will punish the king of Ashur for the boasting that comes from his proud heart and from reveling in his arrogant looks.
Isaiah 10:12–14 (CJB)
For he says, “ ‘With my own strong arm I have done this, and with my wisdom, because I’m so clever! I erased the boundaries between peoples, I plundered their stores for the future; as a mighty man, I subjugated the inhabitants.
My hand found the riches of the peoples like a nest; and as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered the whole earth! Not one wing fluttered, not one beak opened or let out a chirp!’ ”
Renewing focus on the central argument. Now, these scriptures do refer to different ancient kingdoms throughout the history of the earth, they are not even in coded language supposed to relate directly to Europe or its imperialist, colonial empire building activities. Yet, the key point to take from these scriptures is that Yah opposes those who devour lands that do not belong to them. In a spiritual sense then, these scriptures relate to Europeans because their own actions are the same as those of the people and nations presented in the scriptures. Europe does not have a special dispensation or “free pass” to exclude itself from the wrath of Yah for these crimes.
What we do see in scripture is the notion of a union of kingdoms which has absolute power over all the earth’s inhabitants, but this is more than physical and economic, it also represents spiritual power:
and I saw a beast come up out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads. On its horns were ten royal crowns and on its heads blasphemous names. The beast which I saw was like a leopard, but with feet like those of a bear and a mouth like the mouth of a lion. To it the dragon gave its power, its throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast appeared to have received a fatal wound, but its fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth followed after the beast in amazement. They worshipped the dragon, because he had given his authority to the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying,
Revelation 13:1–18 (CJB)
“Who is like the beast?
Who can fight against it?”
It was given a mouth speaking arrogant blasphemies; and it was given authority to act for forty-two months. So it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God to insult his name and his Sh’khinah, and those living in heaven; it was allowed to make war on God’s holy people and to defeat them; and it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. Everyone living on earth will worship it except those whose names are written in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb slaughtered before the world was founded. Those who have ears, let them hear!
“If anyone is meant for captivity,
into captivity he goes!
If anyone is to be killed with the sword,
with the sword he is to be killed!”
This is when God’s holy people must persevere and trust!
Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. It had two horns like those of a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence; and it makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, the one whose fatal wound had been healed. It performs great miracles, even causing fire to come down from heaven onto the earth as people watch. It deceives the people living on earth by the miracles it is allowed to perform in the presence of the beast, and it tells them to make an image honoring the beast that was struck by the sword but came alive again. It was allowed to put breath into the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could even speak; and it was allowed to cause anyone who would not worship the image of the beast to be put to death. Also it forces everyone—great and small, rich and poor, free and slave—to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead preventing anyone from buying or selling unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This is where wisdom is needed; those who understand should count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person, and its number is 666.
This union of kingdoms is referred to as secret or “Mystery Babylon”:
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
Revelation 17:1–18 (AV)
And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
These prophecies in the book of Revelation don’t come about because this is Yah’s ideal situation for the earth. Rather, they come about because of rebellion against Yah. These prophecies are foretelling unhappy events some past, and some to happen in the future.
The one nation Yah gave the right to drive out nations before them was Israel, and that was many thousands of years before these European empires came into existence. Since the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in AD70 in line with Yeshua’s prophecy in Matthew chapter 24, Israel largely became a scattered people until the 1940’s when they some began to return, although some were already in the land, with the help of various European nations such as Britain, and the offspring of Europe such as America.
However, my understanding is that although Israel’s right to be a nation is perpetual, the means by which it achieves this is not to be through the war mongering exploits practised 5000+ years ago, but through being a beacon of justice and hope as I have written elsewhere.
The contrary perspective that Messiah provides is not that the strongest, most heavily armed, most full of intrigue, or those with the most extensive alliances will inherit or take possession of the earth, but:
How blessed are the meek! for they will inherit the Land!
Matthew 5:5 (CJB)
What we see with the slow demise of European empire is not the world returning to the state in which it was before borders were redrawn, peoples were enslaved and exported and resources were forcibly confiscated; no, none of those things have happened to any meaningful degree. What we do see is a morphing of the European power, having effectively raped lands and taken what they wanted, they now effectively control the destinies of those lands, people and resources remotely through military power, through economic, religious, social and cultural mechanisms. This in itself causes further problems for societies and peoples trapped between a world of their own heritage, and the heritage of oppressors who first and foremost only maintain relationship to safeguard their own interests, with the welfare of people coming second at best.
I don’t think it has ever been within European nations plan to completely reverse the harm they have caused, but to prolong their use of power for as long as possible, like leeches draining blood. Even if Europeans wanted to undo the harm they have done, would they know how?
Let’s look at this from another perspective. What do western nations do with nuclear waste, waste from electronics, the waste from over-consumption? I expect you have heard about The Pacific Garbage Patch? The illustration below is from 2019, and it demonstrates the size of a growing patch of garbage in The Pacific Ocean which is several times the size of Germany, and approximately the size of Mongolia or Libya. Consider, America has 4% of the world’s population, but 12% of the world’s waste, China with 15% of the world’s population produces 18% (only 6% more of the world’s waste than America) despite having a population almost four times the size.
The thing is, no one knows how to clear this patch or even stop it growing and the amount of waste we use is growing fast.

The key thing about Europeans is, though skillful in their exploits, though outwardly successful, they do not know how to clear up the mess they make, and for them, the confusion that mess causes becomes a catalyst for the continued exercise of their unjust power, they know now shame for it, and will rarely be bound by the rules which they set upon others.
Taking back land and property

If Israel has the “right” to evict Palestinians off land and property that they have owned for generations. Does that mean that members of various African nations have the right to take back lands and property that European “settlers” have taken?
What about Native Americans?
What about Aborigines?
